Apple is set to shut down eleven of its stores across the
United States majorly in areas where coronavirus cases had recently increased again.
This was reportedly announced on Friday, 19th June
2020 by the company in a statement that disclosed that its stores in Florida,
Arizona, North Carolina and South Carolina that had recently re-opened will board
up.
These four states; Florida, Arizona, North Carolina and South
Carolina, have recently witnessed sudden increase in confirmed cases.
In the statement, the company said;
“Due to current COVID-19 conditions in some of the
communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas, …We take
this step with an abundance of caution as we closely monitor the situation and
we look forward to having our teams and customers back as soon as
possible." – The Hill reports.
The Hill notes that Apple had earlier begun re-opening its stores
in the United State in May with health precautions including temperature checks
and a mask requirement.
The company’s retail head Dierdre O'Brien at the time, had reportedly
said;
“The response to COVID‑19 is still ongoing, and we recognize that the road back will
have its twists and turns" …hinting that stores may have to be closed
again if cases rose.
